The Stylish Sanctuary with Nasreen Shahi

This week’s tour highlights a true labor of love. A Texas native and beloved fashion influencer, Nasreen has spent years dreaming up and designing her gorgeous family home in Austin.

From schematics to final styling, our Austin professional organizers was thrilled to collaborate with our friend—an inspirational leader, devoted mother,  and true gem of a person—to make that dream a reality.

To complement Nasreen’s ultra-chic design, we curated custom solutions and luxurious home decor that fit in seamlessly with her family’s needs and routines.

The result? A simply stunning and stylish sanctuary.

HERE’S WHAT WE DID:

  • Created schematics for Nasreen’s dream closet during the construction phase via our Building Luxury service

  • Strategized elevated, guest-friendly storage solutions

  • Created zones in the Kitchen and Pantry built around daily routines (including an easy to access pasta station)

  • Designed closet spaces from the ground up to showcase Nasreen’s fabulous collection

  • Curated unique space for transitional items in her influencer office

Nasreen’s Office

To make the multifunctional office space of Nasreen’s dreams, we focused on creating a mix of traditional office zones and areas for transitional items like outfits and accessories for photoshoots. A shopping system in the closet holds bags for friends and family to shop the retail overflow, while drawer labels denote items that are ready to be stored or donated. Our team curated the storage throughout to be at the perfect height for Nasreen, making finding the right look a breeze.

The Kitchen

Our favorite way to approach a spacious, open kitchen? Strategic storage and minimal counter clutter with pops of functional decor.

the Entertaining Zone

the Cooking Zone

Next to the stove, we made a cooking zone with a spice drawer and space for canisters from The Home Edit full of rice and pasta—family dinner favorites!

Nazim’s Favorite Zone In the Kitchen

If you’ve followed Nasreen on Instagram for a while, you’ll know that her husband, Nazim, is constantly creating something delicious in the kitchen. With this in mind, our team thoughtfully zoned out the kitchen in a way that will allow Nazim to whip up something tasty for his family without making multiple trips to the pantry or jumping from zone to zone to create the perfect dish.

The Pantry

The perfect kitchen isn’t complete without a roomy pantry. With open shelving, it was important to utilize both organization product and decor to ensure the space was functional and aesthetically pleasing. We’ve spent years sourcing the best functional decor pieces—check out some of our favorites here!

Clearly labeled categories is huge, especially when you’re trying to get an entire family on the same page. You’ve seen us use The Home Edit canisters time and time again (we love them!) and it’s because they help create very clear categories. Not only did snacks that are consistently eaten receive their own category, but we also created personal canisters for each child to store their treats.

The Laundry Room

The laundry room in this home is a masterclass in custom laundry room creation. Every square inch had a purpose, calling for systems and storage that fit the modern design. We created intuitive micro-categories in the drawers and and an easy-to-implement system to ensure laundry doesn’t overwhelm this family of 5.

The Million Dollar Laundry System

Any system you implement in your home should be simple yet effective— especially when it involves kids. One of Nasreen’s goals was to have a system that allowed her kids to take ownership over putting their laundry away. Challenge accepted!

Personalized bins for each child (plus an additional bin for linens and towels) were created for folded laundry. The kids are then able to take their own bin to put the contents away, returning the empty bin when they are done and ready for the next load.

Just 3 weeks into using this system Nasreen and Nazim said “we would have paid a million dollars for this!”

PRO TIP

Nasreen loves to host guests, which means we had to put together one of our signature “Help Yourself” baskets for the guest suite.

We recommend loading up on all the essentials (toothpaste, soap, chapstick, Advil, extra razors, face wash, etc.) and utilize a drawer or cabinet in the laundry room for back stock. This way, when something runs out while you have guests, you’re not making a late night trip to Target.

Curious how you can “wow” your guests? We’re sharing all of our best tips here!

Kids Spaces

3 Tips to Keep the Playroom Tidy

  1. Create Zones— Put all the items needed to complete an activity together in one spot so your kids don’t have to move all around the room.

  2. Label— Keep it simple. Consider broader categories for spaces that others will be tasked with keeping up. “Legos” vs. color coordinating, “Small toys” vs. LOL’s, Hatchimals, etc.

  3. Ditch the box— We recommend storing games vertically with a rubber band, however, for toys such as Legos and even some puzzles, we opt for these zippered vinyl bags.

Arts & Crafts

Nasreen’s little girls are known for their precious style (hm, we wonder where they get that from!) and their adorable creations for their mom and dad. This means they needed the ultimate craft space! Our team was so thrilled to create intentional zones for the kids so that they could not only put together their latest masterpieces but also it was important to Nasreen that the kids be able to find and (most importantly) put away their craft items on their own.

Clearly labeled and easy to read multi-purpose bins were used for categories such activity books and stickers. To ensure smaller items didn’t easily bleed together, our team micro-categorized within these larger Home Edit bins. This is key to sustainability— especially in a kids space.

Building? Don’t forget to create space for seasonal items that can easily be thrown in a drawer or cabinet creating clutter. We love this seasonal zone Nasreen created for party decor and wrapping essentials. Small items are clearly categorized and labeled in deep linus bins ensuring that this party zone doesn’t get too crazy.

The Kids Closets

We asked Nasreen…

  1. What was the #1 reason you decided to reach out to Graceful Spaces to help your family get settled in your new home? During the building process we really wanted to make sure we maximized the space that we had with built in systems that would work best for our family. I reached out to GS for that reason, I knew they would be able to help us design our closets & mud room to do just that!

  2. What was it like having the Graceful Spaces team in your home? The GS team was amazing! Nazim & I joked that they were like little fairies just working away making everything beautiful. They were very respectful of our home and were truly a joy to have here!

  3. Which space did you NOT plan on doing but now you’re so glad you did? I was unsure about doing the kids closets, laundry room, and mud room but SO glad we did. The kids closets have been such a game changer & I love that the kids have been able to stick with the system!

  4. How has an organized home tailored specifically tailored to your family helped your daily routines? Everything has a place, and that feels amazing! When the kids come home they know exactly where to put their backpacks, lunchboxes, jackets, etc.

When we get dressed & ready for the day we all  know where everything is and where everything belongs once we’ve used it, so clean up is a breeze.

The GS team also came up with a system for laundry with the kids and that has been a game changer for our family!

  5. Why would you recommend hiring a professional organizer? Hiring GS saved me so much time getting settled into our new house. If it weren’t for using them, I’d have “junk drawers” all over the house with things that don’t have a place yet.

  6. We’re all curious. You have a stunning Chanel collection— which is your favorite? Is there a special story behind it? Aw thank you! I think my favorite is the white one which is one of the most recent ones I purchased. I got it the day before my double mastectomy &reconstruction while we were in LA. I wanted that bag for a couple years but it’s a “unicorn” bag they say. We were out walking around after lunch & I walked into the Chanel boutique just to browse and it was there, staring right at me!! The Last one in the country so of course I had no choice ;)

  7. Which space in the home is your favorite? Nazim? The kids? I’d say my favorite spaces are my closet & primary bathroom. It just makes HAPPY to see all the pretty things exactly in the right spaces.

Nazim’s is definitely the kitchen, he loves to cook and everything is so easy and seamless now.

The girls really love their craft room now and Reza loves how organized his own room is!
